Recommending a Nanny

Directions for Childcare References

We appreciate your willingness to serve as a childcare reference for one of our TSN nannies. Your recommendation is very important.  The form requires about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. On a number of questions, you are asked to rate the nanny in terms of a specific attribute (such as reliability, honesty, etc.).  Although the rating is important, what families really look for are comments to explain each rating.  Anything you can do to explain a particular rating will be very helpful.  Specific examples always help.  Comments are as important for high ratings as they are for lower ratings.

In answering questions, emphasize childcare relevance, (i.e., "we could always rely on her to keep the children safe or to make sure diapers were changed quickly, etc").  If the nanny is your sister and also your babysitter, mention both facts but emphasize the childcare angle.  That is what families are most concerned about.  If you are a relative of this nanny, don't worry about that limiting your credibility as a reference.  Many of our finest nannies have had most of their babysitting experience within their own extended family.  We very much value relatives as references.

When asked how often this individual watched your children, over what period of time, and for how many hours at a time, be as detailed as possible.

Your responses will be kept private and will not be shown directly to the nanny you have recommended nor will unauthorized individuals have access to it.  We will only provide a copy of your responses (along with responses from other references) to families who have registered with us and who are considering hiring that particular nanny.

On behalf of TSN nannies, we thank you for your time and generosity in serving as a reference.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at (800) 549-2132 or email us at TSNnannies@aol.com.

Sincerely,

Charlotte & Tom
