Guidelines for Hiring a Nanny through TSN:
For you to have the loving and reliable childcare you desire, your nanny needs to be
happy with her job. Because nannies frequently talk to each other, happiness is often
driven by perceptions of what is normal and customary in nanny jobs. We are committed
to helping families and nannies achieve win-win work relationships. Following these
guidelines will help insure a positive experience for both sides.
- We place nannies in jobs paying market rate ($400 or more per week
).
- A live-in nanny position normally requires a maximum of
40 to 55
hours per week. A longer workweek calls for additional compensation. Note:
We will not fill a job requiring more than 60 hours per week.
- Your nanny needs a life away from the job. The optimal situation involves a
regular business workweek (M-F), giving her evenings and Saturday and Sunday off.
Her friends, by the way, almost always have the same days off.
- Nannies do best when they have reasonable time in the evenings and weekends for
activities and personal errands. Optimally, work should end by 6:30 or 7 PM.
Note:
Some families ask the nanny to work longer hours one or two evenings a week and let
the nanny off early on Friday. We support such arrangements -- if they are
equitable.
- Live-in nannies need reasonable access to a car during their hours off the job.
The optimal situation would be to have a dedicated car for the nanny's use. However,
if car sharing is necessary, the nanny should be able to get around without having to
"ask" to use the car every time she goes out.
